ABC Learning Design is a rapid, collaborative approach to designing teaching and learning.
Developed by myself and Nataša Perović at UCL around 2015, it enables teams to map out student learning through structured, focused workshops. Instead of abstract planning, ABC uses a shared visual framework to build coherent, engaging learning journeys across modules and programmes.
It is now used across the UK, Europe and beyond, particularly in contexts where teams need to work across disciplines and make decisions quickly.
My work with ABC focuses on how it can be adapted, extended, and applied in different settings — while retaining its clarity and practical value.

Our 2026 book ABC Learning Design reflecting on a decade of ABC implementation across the sector is available for free download.
This webinar given for European Society for Engineering Education (SEFI) gives a quick outline of the methos, especially as related to Engineering.
